Did you know that Antarctica, in addition to being the most remote continent on Earth, is also a space of rich cultural diversity? 🐧🔬
Although it has no native human population or territorial borders, the daily life shared by researchers, military personnel, and technical staff in Antarctic stations has given rise to a unique set of cultural practices and memories.

📚 In the talk "Antarctica, Land of Researchers?", researcher Gerusa Radicchi presents the project ALIGHT – Antarctic Living Heritage, developed at the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE, Portugal), with support from LEACH/UFMG (Brazil) and CRIA (Portugal). This project aims to uncover the intangible heritage of Antarctica by mapping the cultural traditions and practices that emerge in this extreme and collaborative environment.

🔍 After all, what kind of cultural heritage can arise in a place with no native population or urban development? How can Antarctica’s living heritage inspire new approaches to studying the relationship between culture and nature? These are some of the fascinating questions you’ll explore in this talk!

📅 December 1st – Antarctica Day
🕤 Starting at 9:30 AM, on the Gelo na Bagagem YouTube channel. Gerusa will join us at 11:30 AM!
💡 Don’t miss this opportunity to discover the hidden stories and cultural practices of the frozen continent!
